When symptoms do occur they may be:
- discharge from the penis
- bleeding or discharge from the anus
- pain when passing urine
- blisters or sores / soreness around the genitals or anus
- lumps, bumps, or growths of skin around the genitals or anus
- unusual vaginal bleeding – after sex or in between periods
- pelvic pain including pain with penetrative sex
- pain in the testicles
- discharge from the vagina that is different from normal – change in colour, consistency or smell
- HIV and syphilis can cause a number of different symptoms including fever, sore throat, swollen glands, and a widespread rash
