We will organise regular blood tests to monitor your HIV viral load and your general health. Your HIV treatment and care will be provided by Ward 19 at the Royal Victoria Infirmary.
Telephone: 0191 282 9334 or 0191 282 3110
As well as at a sexual health clinic or GP surgery, free and quick HIV testing can be accessed through MESMAC and SHINE by appointment – see below for more details.
You can also order self testing kits to use at home and get your results by text.
PEP and PrEP
Post-exposure prophylaxis, often referred to as PeP, can be taken within 72 hours of exposure to HIV and may prevent infection.
Pre-exposure prophylaxis, often referred to as PrEP, can be taken by HIV-negative people who are at risk of contracting HIV, to prevent infection.
Both can be discussed with your GP, HIV specialist doctor or at a sexual health clinic.
