The Chest Clinic offers a wide range of services including investigation and treatment of many lung conditions including:
- Asthma
- Bronchiectasis
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) – often called ‘smokers lung’
- Cystic fibrosis
- Lung cancer
- Lung fibrosis
- Occupational lung disease eg. asbestosis
- Tuberculosis
We also provide help and support for patients who would like to stop smoking. If you are interested please contact one of our nursing staff.
Other services offered include Pulmonary Rehabilitation, assessment for oxygen therapy, home ventilation, a nebuliser service and home visits if needed.
The Chest Clinic is the very first in the country where the nursing staff have trained to provide cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) for patients with respiratory problems. This is particularly helpful for patients who are depressed, anxious and experience panic attacks due to their condition.

The Chest Clinic is situated in New Victoria Wing Outpatients Department at the Royal Victoria Infirmary.

Staff you are likely to meet
The clinical team at the Chest Clinic is made up of specialist doctors and nurses, lung function physiologists and other support staff.
Sometimes tests such as x-rays and/or breathing tests will be required.
You will be asked to attend the clinic early so these can be carried out before you see the doctor.
