The head and neck service manages a wide range of conditions associated with the head and neck reconstruction.
The team work closely with members of the Northern Head and Neck Cancer Unit. We specialise in reconstructive surgery after removal of cancers affecting:
- The oral cavity
- Facial bones
- Pharynx
- Lips
- Nose
- Eyelids
- Cheeks.
Our surgeons also specialise in the reconstruction of the head and neck area for the treatment of congenital and acquired non-cancerous conditions.
A significant proportion of these procedures involve highly complex, specialised microsurgery.
Staff you are likely to meet
Our plastic surgeons work as part of a team of clinicians. These include ENT and maxillofacial surgeons, oncologists (doctors specialising in cancer care), radiologists, histopathologists, restorative dentists, speech and language therapists, dietitians, and clinical nurse specialists.
The members of the team work closely together to provide the best possible care for our head and cancer patients.
Some cancers of the mouth can damage the palate and make speech unclear. We work closely with the cleft palate team in these cases to restore speech as far as possible.
