We are the major regional burns treatment centre for the North East and North Cumbria providing comprehensive, high quality care and support for patients of all ages who have suffered a burns injury and their families.
We also have specialist intensive care facilities available to treat patients with severe and complex burns injuries.
Clinical expertise and specialist facilities for complex conditions
The Burns Service is run by a highly skilled multi-disciplinary team made up of specialist surgeons and nurses, together with psychologists who can provide you with emotional support during what can be a very difficult time.
Our team has helped establish several patient support groups whose aim is to help make the recovery process from burns injuries as quick and smooth as possible.
The Burns Service is based at the Royal Victoria Infirmary, but with our patients coming from across the North East, we work in close partnership with smaller, local hospitals to hold outreach clinics there, so that you do not have to travel far to be seen.
Committed to highest quality care with a personal touch
The Burns team has also been involved in a number of exciting and innovative developments and are involved in a number of teaching and research projects.
Our adult inpatient service is based in Ward 37 at the Royal Victoria Infirmary and has both single and double occupancy rooms with ensuite facilities. The ward is secure to provide you and your family with privacy to recover as quickly as possible.
Our younger patients are cared for on Ward 11 New Victoria Wing (GNCH) with a secure and comforting environment dedicated to providing specialist care for children.
Specialist care in a safe and comforting environment
Our overriding ambition is to provide the highest quality treatment, care and support to our patients and their families, and we do all we can to achieve this.
If you have any suggestions for how we can improve our service, please do not hesitate to contact us.
