The pelvic health physiotherapy team provide assessment, manual therapy, exercises and advice to men and women with urological, urogynaecology and gynaecology problems.
This includes:
- Stress and urge incontinence
- Voiding dysfunction
- Pelvic pain
- Sexual dysfunction
- Vaginal prolapse.
Our clinics are based in the physiotherapy department at the Royal Victoria Infirmary.
How can I be referred into the service?
Your urology, gynaecology and urogynaecology consultant can to refer you to the pelvic health physiotherapy service.
However, GPs can refer patients with pelvic health problems to a consultant who will determine if physiotherapy is the best treatment option.
Please note, if you are experiencing incontinence or prolapse during pregnancy or in the first six weeks after giving birth, you can refer yourself to pelvic health physiotherapy at the Royal Victoria Infirmary.

People experiencing pregnancy-related back and pelvic pain can be referred by their midwife or GP to the Tyneside Integrated Musckuloskeletal Service (TIMS).

Due to COVID-19 we are only able to offer limited face-to-face appointments. Each referral will be assessed individually and in the interim we will be able to offer appointments by telephone.
