The metabolic bone unit provides advice, investigation and treatment for patients with osteoporosis (fragile bones) and other metabolic bone diseases such as Paget’s Disease.
The unit is based is the Musculoskeletal Outpatient Department at Freeman Hospital holds a range of specialist clinics.
Staff you are likely to meet
You will be cared for by several members of staff including a consultant in metabolic bone disease, osteoporosis specialist nurses and pharmacists. As well as other doctors and a physiotherapist with expertise in metabolic bone disease.
Specialist investigative techniques allowing rapid diagnosis
When appropriate we will carry out a Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DXA) to diagnose osteoporosis. This will assess future fracture risk and help identify whether or not you would benefit from preventative treatment.
