Our drug and alcohol clinic is run by a team of specialist midwives. The clinic runs on a Tuesday afternoon and is located in the antenatal clinic on Level 4 of the Leazes Wing.
How we can help
If you are drinking dependently please do not stop without medical support as this can be dangerous.
At your booking appointment your community midwife will ask you questions about how much alcohol you have drank and how much you drink now as well as any drug use previously or currently. We know it may take courage but please be honest about this as this will ensure that you get the best possible care for you and your unborn baby.
We are here to answer your questions and provide care and support for you if you have any issues around drug and alcohol use. We’re not here to judge you – we just want you to have the best possible pregnancy care, and your baby to have the best possible start in life.
The whole team is here to help you as much as we can. We can help you if you have used alcohol, street drugs and/or prescribed drugs, at any time during pregnancy, or want to talk about any use in the past.
Our clinic is on a Tuesday afternoon, along with a consultant obstetrician, where we can speak openly and honestly about drug and alcohol use in pregnancy and can help you deal with any issues surrounding your drug and alcohol use. We are also available to see you at other times if this is not convenient for you and we can refer you to appropriate local agencies in order to support you.
Please do get in touch if you have any concerns about drug or alcohol use.
