Ward 33 is our postnatal ward where we will care for you after giving birth. We can also offer support with feeding your baby. We also have a new transitional care ward – ward 34.
Ward 33
You will usually go to Ward 33 after the birth of your baby on the delivery suite. The admission criteria for this ward is:
- Babies who will be receiving routine care.
- Babies who are at risk of having low blood sugars – for example if mum is diabetic.
- Babies who are at risk of infection.
- Babies who weigh over 2.0kg and are over 36 weeks gestation.
- Babies who require help maintaining their temperature with the use of a heat pad.
- Babies who require regular observations for example temperature checks.
Ward 34
You would usually go to ward 34 after giving birth on delivery suite if:
- Your baby is born between 34+0 and 36+6 weeks
- Your baby weighs >1800g and <2000g
- Your baby requires intravenous antibiotics but is otherwise well.
- Your baby requires feeding via a NG tube
You may also be re-admitted from home if:
- Your baby has lost >14% of their birth weight
- Your baby requires oral medication
- Your baby needs support with their blood sugars
