Our ocular motility service treats people who have problems with their eye movements, eye alignment or double vision.
We care for patients with ocular motility (eye movement) problems, these include:
- Squints in children and adults
- Amblyopia (lazy eye)
- Highly-complex problems, such as those occurring after brain injury and stroke
- Problems related to brain tumours, genetic conditions or nystagmus (wobbling of the eyes).
Treatments
We are experienced in all forms of treatment for ocular motility problems and double vision, these include:
- Optical treatment and prisms
- Botulinum toxin treatment
- Squint surgery with adjustable sutures
- The use of occlusive contact lenses or occlusive intra-ocular lenses for intractable double vision.
Staff you will meet
You will be cared for by several members of staff including ophthalmologists, orthoptists and optometrists.
In addition, we work with neurology, neurosurgery, neuro-rehabilitation and oncology.
Referrals
We accept referrals to our service from all over the North of England. In addition, we provide a service for patients with mitochondrial disorders, from outside our region.
