The ophthalmic medical photography service helps with treatment and diagnosis taking photographs of inside the eye.
During your appointment the ophthalmologist might ask a medical photographer to take a photograph or scan of your eye to help with the diagnosis and treatment of your eye condition.
You might have one of the following procedures:
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
A non-invasive diagnostic test to image the inner layers of the retina.
Fundus Fluorescein Angiography (FFA) / Indocyanine Green Angiography (ICG)
Images are taken using a dye. However, this will be explained at the appointment and leaflet.
Fundus Photography
A non-invasive procedure, but dilation drops may have to be instilled to enlarge the pupils, this will be explained at the appointment.
Anterior Segment / Slit Lamp Photography
Imaging of the outer areas of the eye, for example eye lid, iris, lens and sclera.
