Phototherapy is a specialist light based therapy using ultra violet (UV) radiation from artificial light sources. These include:
- narrowband UVB
- Palmar narrowband UVB
- oral whole body and oral hand, and
- immersion hand and foot PUVA.
We also offer further specialist treatments with UVA1 and the excimer 308 lamp.

The Phototherapy department is on Level 2 of New Victoria Wing at the Royal Victoria Infirmary.
Opening hours are:
Monday to Friday from 07.10am – 2.45pm
We are closed weekends and bank holidays.
Things you need to know
A dermatologist will prescribe your treatment and will discuss your specified treatment and any associated side effects with you depending on your prescribed treatment
You may need to attend the phototherapy department two or three times a week.
We do not offer this treatment more than once a year.
Men should bring appropriate underwear, jockstrap or a sock to allow for complete protection of the genital area from the ultra violet light.
