We will promptly assess your referral decide if you need urgent transfer for heart surgery.
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, this process has ensured urgent patients continue to receive heart surgery.

How can be referred into the service?
We care for patients who have:
- Chest pain (unstable angina)
- (Heart attack) and its serious complications
- Acute valvular heart conditions requiring urgent surgery
- Infections involving the heart valves (Infective endocarditis)
- Atrial Myxomas (cardiac tumours)
Urgent service
Get immediate medical help if you think you’re having a heart attack. Call 999 immediately as you need immediate treatment in hospital.
The referral process
Another hospital will refer you this service by another hospital.
Firstly, an online referral form will be completed by the hospital you are currently in. One of our nurses will assess the referral, followed by the lead consultant.
If you need surgery, you will be given a provisional date for surgery and arrangements and you will be transferred to the Freeman Hospital
