Our cardiac surgical service (heart surgery) provides routine and emergency cardiac and aorto-vascular surgery.
We are experienced in end-stage heart and lung failure including transplantation. Therefore, we offer surgery to people with most complex cases who have been declined for surgery by other centres.
Staff you are likely to meet
We have seven consultant surgeons supported by cardiac anaesthetists, nursing staff, allied health professionals and clerical staff.
In addition, our surgeons each have areas of cardiac surgical sub-speciality interest.
Our services
We perform a variety surgery as routine or as an emergency, including:
- Coronary artery bypass surgery
- Heart valve replacement and repair surgery
- Surgery for aneurysms of the thoracic aorta
- Surgery for abnormal heart rhythms
- Removal of cardiac tumours
Following surgery, you may be referred to the cardiac rehabilitation service
How can I be referred into the service?
You will be referred either through your GP, but most commonly by another speciality, such as a cardiologist.
You may also have to attend a pre-admission clinic and undergo further tests and investigations before your surgery. However, we will arrange this with you as part of the process leading to your operation.
