The pulmonary vascular unit offers rapid access to specialist investigation for people with diseases affecting their lungs and the blood vessels.
The pulmonary vascular unit is based at the Freeman Hospital. It is one of six designated centres of excellence in the UK and Ireland.
Our clinicians have expertise in care and treatment of many conditions, including:
- Pulmonary hypertension
- Pulmonary arterio-venous malformations
- Hereditary haemorrhagic telangiectasia
- Familial pulmonary hypertension
- Pulmonary arterial hypertension
We work closely with cardiopulmonary transplantation colleagues. Therefore, if your condition gets worse, you can be quickly referred for further treatment.

You can be referred into the service by your GP.
Please note this clinic is not available via e-Referral.
Research
We have a very active clinical trials programme for research into pulmonary vascular diseases.
Therefore, patients are offered the opportunity to try emerging new therapies and treatments.
