- A small polyp (overgrowth of tissue) has been taken from your cervix today.
- You may have a bloodstained or dark discharge for about 48 hours. Please use a panty liner or pad for a few days to avoid staining your underwear.
- Avoid intercourse and using tampons during this time.
- Very rarely you may experience some excessive bleeding with clots; this is not normal. Please contact: –

- Some people experience crampy abdominal pains, these should not last more than 2-3 days; you may take some simple painkillers such a paracetamol (as per the instructions on the packet). If the pain is not resolving please contact colposcopy or, if out of hours, the numbers above.
- You will receive a letter in approximately 3 – 4 weeks informing you of your results and if required an appointment for follow-up will be enclosed.
