We’re delighted to welcome Corinne Johnson who joins us from Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust where she spent five years involved in the rollout of a paperless end-to-end maternity system called BadgerNet – a single record of care.
Corinne will lead on the implementation of the system here at Newcastle, which will be used as the maternity electronic patient record (EPR).
“It involves having an electronic record from the moment a woman presents for maternity care throughout pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period. It’s a real-time system so you can document your information as a clinician in real-time and you can access that information in real-time,” said Corinne.
“This includes information about a person’s medical history, pregnancy history, obstetric history, current risk factors, safeguarding information and you can upload associated documentation.”
The system will also give service users access to information in their record and allow them to be involved in the decision-making process through a personal care plan.
It is fully interactive and gives access to relevant leaflets and information about the pregnancy and provides the opportunity to ask questions, create a birth plan and receive appointment reminders.
Corinne started with the Trust less than a month ago and, as part of the maternity team, will work closely with the digital health team in the IT directorate.
“I’m trying to get my head around the place because it is huge compared to the Trust I was at before,” she added.
“But I’m really enjoying it. Everyone seems to be really positive and on-board with BadgerNet and wants it in place as quickly as possible. “This is a really exciting future development so I’m really happy to be here.”
Newcastle’s Associate Director of Midwifery Jane Anderson said: “We are delighted to welcome Corinne to the Trust as our lead Midwife for digital health.
“Corinne brings a wealth of experience to the role and will be pivotal in supporting the implementation of the electronic patient record for Maternity Services. BadgerNet will provide a host of benefits to healthcare staff and patients, further enhancing the quality-of-care provision at Newcastle.”
Allison Deagle, Matron, Digital Health Team, added: “It is vital to have a clinical perspective in digital projects so Corinne’s insight and experience will be absolutely invaluable. This is a great example of the important role played by digital transformation projects like these.”
