It has now been a few days since we heard the tragic news about our Chaplain Katie, and I have been very touched by the many tributes I have seen from our staff, patients and the wider community. The loss of such a valued and much-loved colleague has profoundly shocked us all.
Whilst I didn’t know Katie personally, I have heard very clearly that she was a very special person who gave so much to help others. She constantly went above and beyond to provide support, solace and comfort to thousands of patients, families and colleagues during her 17 years with the Trust.
In her role as hospital Chaplain Katie had an immeasurable impact, helping people to navigate and cope in times of difficulty, darkness and grief.
As well as a colleague, I have heard how much of a friend she was to so many members of staff. Her ability to help people at the right time and in just the right way, her commitment, wise counsel and empathy, will leave a legacy across so many lives.
As a Trust, we will miss her presence, her kindness, her sense of humour, her stories, her high standards and her smile.
