A Newcastle Hospitals specialist has been recognised for his research into using artificial intelligence to improve throat cancer outcomes for patients.
Amar Rajgor, an academic trainee surgeon with the Freeman Hospital’s ear, nose and throat programme, has won two regional awards ‘Thought Leader’ and ‘Digital and Technology’ in the Northern NPH Ethnic Minority Powerlist 2024.
As an NIHR doctoral fellow Amar is driving forwards the use of imaging analysis to improve outcomes for patients with advanced throat cancer with the following research:
- The AIRSPACE project, which explores how imaging can be used to better understand and optimise treatment for patients with advanced-stage larynx and voice box cancer.
- Leading a world-first study that uses innovative software to analyse imaging data and predict treatment outcomes for patients with advanced voice box cancer.
- In collaboration with the Northern Health Science Alliance (NHSA) and the Northern Head and Neck Alliance (NHNA) leading a study investigating survival rates for patients with incurable throat cancer — the first time this had been systematically explored which aims to guide future care and research efforts in this field.
