Over a quarter of a million people in the UK need Changing Places facilities. Standard accessible toilets do not meet the needs of all people with a disability.
People with profound and multiple learning disabilities, as well people with other physical disabilities such as spinal injuries, muscular dystrophy and multiple sclerosis often need extra equipment and space to allow them to use the toilets safely and comfortably. These needs are met by Changing Places toilets.
We now have changing places facilities at both the Freeman Hospital and the Royal Victoria Infirmary.
The rooms feature a height adjustable adult changing bed, an electronic ceiling hoist, height adjustable sink, peninsular toilet, shower, non-slip floor and privacy screen.
How to access the facilities

- The facility is located on level three of Leazes Wing.

You can access the Changing Places facilities using a radar key. Keys are also kept at the main reception at the Freeman Hospital and Leazes Wing at the RVI.
