Scam Parking Charge Notice/Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) communications
We have been made aware of a series of scam PCN text messages.
These messages are a scam and are not issued by our hospitals’ parking management enforcement.
Parking management enforcement is only ever provided by letter and this is common practice throughout the industry.
If you receive messages about parking charge notices or penalty charge notices via text, do not click any links and forward these for free to 7726 to report them as a suspicious message.

Pay on foot barrier car parks
Our barrier car parks operate with Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras.
Please take a ticket on entry, the ticket should not be left in the car. The first 30 minutes are free.
Payment should be made at the pay station using the ticket taken on entry before returning to the vehicle, unless you return within 30 minutes when you can proceed directly to the exit barrier.
All pay machines take payment by coin, note and card (exc. American Express). If using contactless please keep the card over the reader until transaction is processed as readers do take longer. Chip and PIN is also available.
When car parks are full, barriers will not raise and allow entry until spaces become available. Please wait at the barrier as spaces do turnover steadily. As soon as spaces become available you will be able to take a ticket and enter.
Pay on exit – ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) car parks
Our non-barriered car parks operate with ANPR cameras which capture an image of vehicle entry and exit times.
You will need your car registration and should note your time of arrival.
Payment should be made at the pay station by entering your vehicle registration before returning to the vehicle, unless you return within 30 minutes when you can proceed directly out of the car park.
All pay machines take payment by coin, note and card (exc. American Express). If using contactless please keep the card over the reader until transaction is processed as readers do take longer. Chip and PIN is also available.
Pay by Phone is also available in these car parks and payment can be made up to 12 hours after departure.
Please note that in all car parks, even if the vehicle is not in a space, sitting in the vehicle in the car park is considered use and tariffs apply.
Drop-off and collection
All drop-off and collection areas at the main entrances are monitored by ANPR and enforcement is in operation. Please refer to signage but in most cases there is a maximum stay of 10 minutes.
If you are collecting someone from a ward or department please use the main car park as there may be delays with discharge. All main entrances have seating areas where patients can wait whilst your vehicle is brought from the car park to the collection point.
If you are dropping someone off and assistance is required, please take the patient to a seating area and then proceed to a car park to leave your vehicle there.
Please support our clean air plan by not keeping your engine running while in drop-off areas.
Visitor parking
Please consider car sharing when visiting patients, to help us maintain capacity in the car parks for patients attending appointments. You should avoid leaving your vehicle in the car park if going into Newcastle or the surrounding area once visiting has finished.
