Bronze cycle parking is available for patients and visitors to use. Silver and gold cycle parking is a paid for service for staff.
Top tips to secure your bike
You must make sure your cycle is locked securely as bike thieves target large workplaces. Bike thieves operate throughout the city and at the RVI in particular.
Our cycle parking security levels vary, however all bikes should still be locked securely.
- Lock your bike with two locks – The most secure way to lock your bike is with two locks. The first lock should go around the back wheel, the frame and the bike rack. The second should go around the front wheel, the frame and preferably the bike rack as well. If you use two different types of lock anyone trying to steal the bike would need to have two different types of lock-breaking tools.
- Lock your frame – Lock your frame to the cycle stand. A thief can easily remove a wheel.
- Keep your lock off the ground – You should keep your lock off the ground as a hammer can smash the lock, or the ground can be used as leverage for bolt cutters. Ideally the lock should go high up around the down tube or the seat tube.
- Make the lock difficult to access – Position the lock so the keyhole is facing downwards to make it more difficult to tamper with the locking mechanism.
- Fill the inside of a D-lock – If you’re using a D-lock, try to fill as much of the space within the D with the bike and the bike stand. This prevents leverage attacks as there’s no spare room inside the D.
