After a patient has died family and friends are welcome to visit them in the Chapel of Rest, either at the Freeman Hospital or at the RVI. Anyone who comes in to visit a patient will be accompanied by a member of the Chaplaincy Team who will support you on your visit and be able to answer any questions you may have about the patient’s care.

Appointments are available:
- Monday – Friday: 10am to 4.30pm (last appointment 4pm)
- Saturday: 12noon to 4.30pm (last appointment 4pm)
- Sunday: 1pm to 4.30pm (last appointment 4pm)
Each appointment is for 30 minutes and we ask that you arrive promptly.
Ensuring the privacy, dignity and respect of the deceased is very important to us.
Any person can request a viewing in the Chapel of Rest and we will kindly ask you to provide:
- The full name of the deceased
- The deceased’s date of birth
- The deceased’s home address
- What relationship you have with the deceased
- Sometimes you may be asked where the person has died
If you do not know the information above please contact somebody who might know this information before you try and arrange a viewing.
You will also be asked to confirm your full name and provide the name of the other person attending the viewing with you.
