Ward 46 is a 29 bedded colorectal surgical ward which specialises mainly in treating lower gastro-intestinal conditions for people requiring surgical interventions and management.
Ward 46 is known for providing expert care and treatment for colorectal cancer and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) patients.
The clinical team on Ward 46 is led by Sister Jillian Armstrong, alongside junior sisters Keighley Shilling and Rebecca Reay, and experienced ward staff nurses, nurse associate and healthcare assistants.
The staff on Ward 46 also work very closely with Northumbria University, developing the skills and experiences of student nurses.
Ward 46 works in collaboration with a wide range of multi-disciplinary team members including;
- surgeons
- specialist nurses
- dieticians
- pharmacy
- physiotherapists
- occupational therapists
- social workers and other health professional staff.
All team members work together to provide high standards of patient care, and excellent patient satisfaction.
Ward 46 have been short listed for the Nursing Times Team of the Year and Student Nurse Placement of the Year.
We excel in providing high quality care and following a Harm Free Care Change Management project have achieved excellent results with only four superficial pressure ulcers acquired over approximately a seven year period.

Visiting times
Monday to Friday 2 – 4pm and 6 – 8pm
Saturday and Sunday 2pm – 8pm
A maximum of two visitors allowed per bed space.
