Ward 17 is a mixed neurosurgery, spinal surgery and neurology day unit. We care patients who require neurosurgery or spinal surgery or emergency review for associated complaints.
We have a chaired area for neurology patents who require specialist treatments that are carried out as a day appointment and do not require admission to hospital.
Ward 17 is also known as a day of surgery arrival ward. You will arrive here on the morning of your planned surgery where all admission checks will be carried out. After your surgery, you may be transferred to either ward 15 or ward 16. Some patients will return to our Neurological short stay unit for overnight observation.
Staff you are likely to meet
Our clinical team is made up of consultant neurosurgeons, specialist nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and other support staff.
Things you need to know
- Patients admitted for elective surgery may have attended a pre-admission clinic. They advise you of the likely length of hospital stay you can expect.
- We care for a number of patients with neurological conditions on a day case basis. If appropriate, we may ask these patients to attend a satellite unit at CRESTA Clinic (CAV) for their treatment.
- We ask that, when attending ward 17, you are accompanied by 1 person only. If you are attending for treatment, family/friends must leave the ward and collect you at the end of your treatment.
Location of the ward
Ward 17 is on level five of the New Victoria Wing at the RVI.
