The Great North Children’s Hospital is in Newcastle upon Tyne, on the same site as the Royal Victoria Infirmary. It is one of only 14 major children’s centres in the UK.
With 245 beds, the Great North Children’s Hospital has the most extensive range of children’s services anywhere outside London. It has special wards, operating theatres, outpatients and day case suites, all tailored just for children.
“Was in there for about six weeks and it really is a good all-rounder…They seriously know how to take care…and I haven't even mentioned how clean and modern it is…If you or your child is having a long stay here, I’d definitely say you're in safe hands.”

Specialist services
Being in hospital can be daunting and worrying experience for children and young people. The Great North Children’s Hospital is different from a traditional hospital and has everything a sick or injured child may need under one roof.
We want our young patients and their families to have the best experience possible. All of our clinical areas are bright and welcoming, specifically tailored for children, and we have a 50 seat cinema where children can relax to watch the latest blockbusters.
Our young patients include thousands of local children from across the North East and Cumbria. In addition, patients travel with their families across the country to benefit from our specialist services.
The hospital has it own accident and emergency department, whilst it also houses a number of specialist services such as, children’s allergy, respiratory and orthopaedics.
Our children and young people’s cancer service cares for children with all types of cancer and has its own dedicated space for young people.
The bone marrow transplant unit is one of only two in the UK and Ireland to treat children with Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID).
