In the Urology clinic we carry out specialist investigations and procedures to help diagnose and treat a wide range of urological problems. These include:
Endourological suite
We have a small operating theatre where a range of investigative and surgical procedures are carried out. These include:
- Laparoscopic procedures
- Transurethral Resection of Prostate (TURP)
- Kidney and Ureter Stone Extractions (PCNL and ureteroscopy)
- Vasectomies
- Circumcisions
- Brachytherapy (implant radiotherapy treatment for prostate cancer)
Urodynamic procedures
Where tests such as a cystometrogram (to test bladder pressure) and ultrasound scans are carried out to assess bladder function.
Haematuria clinic
A “one-stop” clinic where tests such as an intravenous urogram, renal ultrasound and flexible cystoscopy (tube containing a miniature microscope) are carried out to understand why there is blood in your urine.
Transrectal ultrasound clinic
Where transrectal ultrasounds and biopsies are carried out to investigate prostate problems.

How to find us
The Urology Clinic is based at Freeman Hospital. To find us:
- Come through the Main Entrance and follow the main corridor as far as you can go, passing the shop and hairdressers, and turn to your left.
- Take the lift or stairs up to level 3 and follow the signs for the Urology Clinic, turning left if you have taken the stairs and right if you have taken the lifts.
- Report to the reception when you arrive.
Staff you are likely to meet
When you arrive in the Urology Clinic, you will be seen by a member of staff experienced in problems associated with the bladder or kidneys.
They will discuss your symptoms and explain what to expect during your time in the clinic. You may find it helpful to bring a friend or relative with you.
During the course of the morning you may also meet staff from the Radiology Department when you have your scans, and medical and nursing staff when you have your bladder examination.

- There is loop system fitted at all reception points, on the TV in the waiting area and in all consulting rooms
