The Renal Clinical Investigation Unit in the Renal Services Centre provides an outpatient service led by Specialist Nurse Practitioners who offer a wide range of care and support for patients with kidney disorders.
You may be seen in the unit for many reasons including blood tests, treatment, education, support and guidance. You will also be seen there regularly in the early weeks following a kidney transplant to closely monitor your progress and to make sure your new kidney is working well.
We run a comprehensive ‘pre-dialysis’ education programme. A personalised education portfolio has been developed to help you to understand all about your condition, and to be prepared for what to expect in terms of treatment and medication options. It also gives advice on nutrition and diet and how to maintain a healthy and fulfilling lifestyle.
This is also available in electronic format – ask one of our Specialist Nurse Practitioners for more information.
