Working in partnership, Newcastle University’s vision is is to be the UK’s first health innovation neighbourhood. This is a space for research to come together with business, government and people to shape the future of health and ageing.
This will involve building on world leading ageing research to provide innovative solutions for living, leisure, learning and employment.
Home to the NIHR Newcastle Biomedical Research Centre, the site will become bring together the NHS, Newcastle University and industry dedicated to shape the future of health and ageing.

Whilst many services were relocated to the Freeman Hospital and Royal Victoria Infirmary around 10 years ago, the site is still home to some of our key departments:
- Diabetes services
- NECTAR (North East Children’s Transport And Retrieval service)
- Newcastle Westgate Cataract Centre (NWCC).
