A guide to starting out in clinical academic research
This is a series of ten films giving advice and tips on becoming a clinical academic.
This guide, created by staff from across North East and North Cumbria, will help you find the best ways to get involved in research.
Priorities for health and care research
This tool has been designed through Oxford Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) and can be used by researchers to:
- Strengthen your research proposals by addressing topics of known importance to UK James Lind Alliance Priority Setting Partnerships
- Help choose or refine your research questions
- Consider who you could collaborate with (from which areas of health and care)
If you are a nurse, midwife or AHP who is new to clinical research, use this research wheel as a helpful guide to getting your study idea off the ground.
NIHR ICA Application Flowchart
Preparing your application for the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Integrated Clinical Academic (ICA) scheme.
This timeline will help you plan your application for the Health Education England (HEE) / National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) Integrated Clinical and Practitioner Academic (ICA) Programme.
The ICA programme is aimed at health and social care professionals, including nurses, midwives, and AHPs, who wish to develop careers that combine research and clinical practice
Patient and Public Involvement
This resource from the NIHR Research Design Service (RDS) is aimed at supporting researchers who are developing grant applications with, and for, diverse communities.
Equality and Diversity in Research
Inclusivity within research participation is important to enable engagement with underrepresented groups. Researchers can use the links here for guidance on how to promote equality and diversity within their research.
This resource is an online planner, funded and developed by NIHR Newcastle Biomedical Research Centre (BRC), in collaboration with the Faculty of Medical Sciences at Newcastle University. It was designed to support researchers and make it as easy as possible for them to plan out their Patient Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) activity – ensuring that the public are at the heart of research.
PPIE means working with patients and the public from diverse backgrounds to shape research, as well as making sure research work is clearly communicated, while feedback is encouraged.
