What is a Doctoral Fellowship and what does the funding provide?
The Doctoral fellowship will enable an individual Nurse, Midwife or AHP to undertake a Doctoral research programme with an identified University. The fellowship is part time and designed to enable the individual to remain present and visible within the clinical department, whilst undertaking the research programme alongside.
The award will fund backfill up to 0.5 WTE of salary and associated tuition fees for the duration of the programme (maximum 6 years). The fellowship will also fund up to £5k project costs, to be discussed and agreed.
Who is eligible to apply?
Applications are invited from registered Nurses, Midwives or Allied Health Professionals between Band 5 – 8a as identified via NHS England here: https://www.england.nhs.uk/ahp/role/

- Applications should be submitted to [email protected] by midday on 17th of March. Please ensure you have discussed your intention to apply with your line manager and gained support to do so – this should be mentioned in your application.
- Applicants will be informed week commencing 28th of April if they have been shortlisted for interview.
- Interviews will take place on Tuesday 13th of May with an expectation that the successful applicant will be informed of the outcome and the fellowship will commence soon after. The exact time is to be arranged, but please ensure you are available on this date for interview. No alternatives can be offered due to timeframes.
