Associate Director of Midwifery
The Associate Director of Midwifery at Newcastle Hospitals has overall responsibility for the professional leadership and management of Midwifery across the Trust, as well as providing expert professional advice on all Midwifery issues, clinical governance, quality and risk.
Chris Bill – Associate Director of Nursing
Chris Bill is Associate Director of Nursing and Chief Nursing Information Officer supporting the digital maturity of the organisation and acting as the bridge between IT staff and nursing, midwifery and AHP colleagues to ensure their voice is heard in the digital space and that EPR works for those who use it.
Helga Charters – Associate Director of Nursing
Helga Charters is Associate Director for Nursing for Safeguarding, Mental Capacity Act (MCA) and Learning Disability, leading the relevant teams on all aspects of care, reasonable adjustments, treatment advice and support across maternity, CYP and adults relating to this portfolio whilst in our care both in community and in our hospitals.
Sue Cook – Associate Director of Nursing
Sue Cook is Associate Director of Nursing providing high quality operational support to the trust’s safe and timely response to the day to day running of its hospitals and other anchor organisation services. She was also involved in the establishment and running of the North East’s vaccination, test and trace and staff screening programmes.
Ewan Dick – Associate Director for Allied Health Professionals
Ewan Dick is the Associate Director for Allied Health Professionals and Therapy Services providing professional leadership for 1150 AHPs across Newcastle Hospitals’ acute and community services as well as operational and clinical leadership and management for Therapy Services, a clinical support Directorate made up of six departments.

Anna Telfer is an Associate Director of Nursing for Children and Young People with a professional responsibility to support and provide advice and guidance to all children’s nurses across the organisation ensuring children and young people receive safe and high quality care, as well as having a Trust-wide strategic portfolio for NMAHPs research.

Peter Towns is an Associate Director of Nursing and is the Professional Nursing Lead for the Freeman Hospital as well as having a Trust-wide strategic portfolio for workforce development ensuring the provision of high quality, safe care supported by effective recruitment and retention of nursing and midwifery staff.
