Community nurse Jessica Higginson has been awarded a Cavell Star Award in recognition of her outstanding approach to consistently providing the highest quality patient care, with particular dedication to those receiving palliative and end of life care.
Jessica was nominated by fellow community nurse Charlotte Mountain who describes her as a fantastic nurse adding that she and colleagues feel so proud to have her as a colleague in their district nursing team.
“I nominated Jessica because I believe she deserves recognition for the hard work she puts into looking after our patients every day, making sure they have everything they need and are exceptionally well looked after” explains Charlotte.
“I have worked with her since qualifying in 2018 and since this time I have seen her flourish enormously to the point where she is now very much recognised as a senior member of the team with invaluable experience.”
Charlotte adds “Earlier this year Jessica went through the bereavement of her Nanna which was extremely hard.
“However, she continued to come into work and provide palliative and end of life care to the highest of standards for those patients in need.”
Charlotte’s nomination explained how Jessica overcame the struggles of working in Newcastle’s care homes during the height of the COVID pandemic not long after having qualified which she managed exceptionally well.
Jessica promotes the needs of the patients and acts as an advocate to always make sure they receive the best care.

“She always brings a smile to the office and is always there to help other team members when needed,” continues Charlotte.
“She is an asset to the team – we all enjoy working with her and embrace her positive outlook on work and life.”
