Health Visitor awarded Queen’s Nursing Institute Dora Roylance Memorial Prize
Newcastle Health visitor Caitlin McCord has received a Queens Nursing Institute (QNI) award recognising her outstanding performance whilst completing a Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (SCPHN) Health Visitor programme at Northumbria University.
Her nomination said she not only demonstrated academic excellence with strong and encouraging practice feedback, but was also seen to demonstrate a warm and supportive attitude to all her peers.

NIHR ICA PCAF for Advanced Physiotherapist
Sam Browne is an advanced practitioner physiotherapist specialising in musculoskeletal conditions, in particular those causing chronic and persistent pain.
Through his research Sam seeks to support patients to self manage and improve their experience with a specific focus on access for minority and disadvantaged groups.

Cavell Award for ‘Shining Star’ Community Nursery Nurse
Nursery nurse Micki Short has been awarded a ‘Star Award’ by the Cavell Nurses Trust in recognition of the outstanding commitment and dedication she displays whilst supporting families seeking asylum in Newcastle.
In particular she is known for doing all she can to meet the huge emotional needs of the parents and their children.

First RDI Embedded Researcher Fellowship
Specialist paediatric dietitian Paige Alsop has been awarded Newcastle’s first Researcher Development Institute Embedded Researcher Fellowship. Paige specialises in the nutritional needs of children and young people with cystic fibrosis. Her Fellowship will enable her – as the Embedded Researcher in Newcastle’s children’s cystic fibrosis team – to understand the short and long term implications of a new CF treatment and how best to respond with currently unavailable clinical guidance.

District Nurse awarded Queen’s Nursing Initiative (QNI) prize
District nurse Georgia Hibbert has received a Queens Nursing Institute (QNI) award for her outstanding performance whilst completing a Master’s Degree at Northumbria University. Georgia was noted in particular for excelling during her studies and her supervisory tutors at Northumbria University nominated her for the QNI’s much coveted Philip Goodeve Docker Memorial Prize.

Newcastle’s first RDI Chief Nurse Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship
Dr Lisa Robinson, an Allied Health Professional Consultant at the RVI’s Great North Trauma and Emergency Centre has been awarded Newcastle’s first RDI Chief Nurse Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship through which she aims to co-design an intervention to prevent the sedentary behaviours that contribute to hospital-associated deconditioning in older adults.

Newcastle physiotherapist awarded an NIHR Doctoral Academic Clinical Fellowship
Paul McCallion, a physiotherapist in respiratory medicine at Newcastle’s Freeman Hospital hopes the Fellowship will help to improve quality of life for people living with bronchiectasis by working collaboratively with patients to develop non-invasive techniques to clear the airways.

Introducing ‘Don’t delay the play’
Lindsay Carr, children’s occupational therapist and Penny Walsh, children’s physiotherapist, care for children who need to be in hospital for weeks or even months at a time.
They have designed an interactive poster featuring examples of important developmental play whilst in hospital, giving parents the confidence to interact and play with their child as they would at home and minimise the impact of long hospital stays on the developmental progress of very young children.

Double accolade for a health visitor who’s pure gold
Health visitor Hazel Galloway recently received the distinguished title of Queen’s Nurse – one of the highest accolades in the community nursing profession – as well as celebrating her golden anniversary of working in the NHS.
It is Hazel’s dedication to improving the health and wellbeing of children and families in the inner city area of Newcastle during her 30 years of health visiting that saw her recognised by the Queen’s Nurse Institute’s ‘Long Service Award’.

‘Trailblazer’ Lisa awarded Chief Nursing Officer medal
Trailblazing healthcare assistant Lisa Morgan has received one of the Chief Nursing Officer for England’s first healthcare support workers (HCSWs) awards after being nominated for the ‘Commitment to quality of care’ category.
Lisa won her award in recognition of her outstanding commitment to quality of care ‘with a generosity of spirit like no-one else’.
