Biography
Graduated with Hons Royal College Surgeons in Ireland 1986. Post graduate training in Dublin, then research fellowship at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA, and Clinical Fellowship in University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Appointed Assistant Professor of Medicine at University of Pittsburgh in Section of Heart Failure and Transplantation in 1997. In 2004, took up present post specialising in advanced heart failure at the Freeman Hospital.
Dr MacGowan is an Honorary Professor in Heart Failure at the Biosciences Institute of Newcastle University with over 130 peer reviewed publications and previous and current grants from the British Heart Foundation, EU, NIHR, Heart Research UK, American Heart Association, Irish Heart Foundation and US National Institutes of Health.
