Mr Sandro Di Simplicio is a consultant ophthalmologist specialising in vitreoretinal surgery, cataract surgery and medical retina.
Mr Simplicio joined the Newcastle Eye Centre in April 2017 after having been trained in Medicine in Siena (Italy), specialised in Ophthalmology in Milano (Italy) and having completed three fellowships in the UK in London (King’s College Hospital), Southampton and Bristol.
His primary clinical interests are Vitreoretinal and Cataract surgery.
In Vitreoretinal surgery Mr Simplicio’s main focus is on diabetic retinopathy with its surgical implications and macular holes surgery, where he is a strong supporter of non-posturing technique which has also been the focus of past research and presentations.
He performs any kind of cataract surgery, including toric and multifocal lens implants, and runs Macular Degeneration Clinics in Cramlington, where he performs Intravitreal Injections for treatment of wet AMD.
