Mr Rajen Gupta is a Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Newcastle Eye Centre, Royal Victoria Infirmary specialising in medical retina, diabetic retinopathy, age related macular degeneration, vascular retinal diseases and cataract surgery.
Mr Gupta’s undergraduate training was in Nottingham. Following qualification in 1994 he had a broad exposure to general medicine, neurosurgery, and acute medicine, including working in South Africa.
He subsequently did his post graduate ophthalmic training in Nottingham and Birmingham before doing a Fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London.
Mr Gupta joined the RVI’s eye department in 2008 where his main interests include diabetic retinopathy and vascular disorders as well as age related macular degeneration.
He also has a keen interest in teaching trainees and has a role in research.
