Mr Hussain is a Consultant Neurosurgeon at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle. Born and raised in South Shields, Mr Hussain acquired his medical degree from Imperial College London and came back to the North East for his Neurosurgical training. He honed his expertise in Functional Neurosurgery at the Walton Centre in Liverpool, specialising in surgical management of pain, Epilepsy and surgery in eloquent areas of the brain using intraoperative monitoring and advanced neuroimaging techniques.
Mr Hussain manages patients with Movement disorders requiring Deep brain stimulation and patients with lesional and non lesional epilepsy who may require surgery. With a specialist interest in surgery in eloquent areas of the brain Mr Hussain incorporates advances neuro-imaging and intra-operative mapping with awake surgery to provide surgical resection of tumours and other lesions of the brain whilst maintaining the patients function.
Mr Hussain’s current practice also includes management of nerve related pain in the arms and legs due to pathology in the neck and lower back. This includes decompression surgery but also neuromodulation with spinal cord stimulation.
