Mr Matthew Thomas is a Consultant Vascular Surgeon at Newcastle’s Freeman Hospital specialising in endovascular surgery.
Mr Thomas graduated from the University of Leeds School of Medicine in 2004. During his undergraduate education he also completed a Batchelor of Science degree in Anatomy, in 2002. His first year immediately following medical school was spent in Yorkshire, before moving to complete his basic surgical training in the North East and the West Midlands.
All of his higher surgical training in Vascular Surgery was undertaken here in the North East, before spending a year as an Endovascular Fellow at the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney, Australia in 2020. He took up his position as a Consultant at the Freeman Hospital on his return from Sydney in January 2021.
As part of his post-graduate education, Mr Thomas has completed a Masters in Clinical Education from the University of Newcastle in 2013, and a Masters in Vascular & Endovascular Surgery from the University of Edinburgh in 2017. He has a special interest in both undergraduate and post-graduate education and training, and is the current Educational Lead for the Department of Vascular Surgery.
