Mr David Hamilton is a Consultant ENT Surgeon (Otolaryngologist) with an interest in head and neck surgery at Newcastle’s Freeman Hospital.
His specialist interest is in head, neck and thyroid cancer; he also treats the full range of ENT conditions including benign diseases (such as those affecting the salivary glands and thyroid).
David qualified from Newcastle University in 2004 and completed the majority of his surgical training in the North East of England. He underwent further specialist head, neck and thyroid training during his fellowship at Aintree University Hospital in Liverpool
A clinical academic, David’s research focusses on delivering a patient centred service, patient involvement in decision making and outcomes after cancer treatment. He has been a strong advocate for patient centred care through his research and teaching and he runs a course for trainee surgeons and consultants at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh teaching patient centred consent practises.
In 2014 he completed his PhD examining patient involvement in complex team decision-making and now has a broad research portfolio investigating persistent throat symptoms, laryngeal cancer, new technology and training.
