Dr Preya Patel qualified from Imperial College London in 2008 and joined the team in Newcastle as a consultant liver specialist in 2021. Preya undertook her specialist training in NE London and completed her subspecialty Hepatology training at the Liver Unit in Newcastle. Preya also spent 3 years working at the Centre for Liver Disease Research in Brisbane Australia investigating non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and developing novel pathways of care.
Dr Patel also leads an outreach hepatology service at United Hospitals of North Durham providing shared care to liver transplant and hepatology patients. She also performs upper and lower GI endoscopy.
Research
Dr Patel’s research interest include fatty liver disease and developing novel pathways of care.
She is currently completing a PhD in risk stratification to identify advanced fibrosis in patients with Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
