Dr Neil Rajan is an Honorary Consultant Dermatologist at Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary, and Senior Lecturer at Newcastle University where he carries out research into his special interest dermato (skin) genetics and skin cancers.
Dr Rajan carries out clinics at the RVI in these areas with the aim of harnessing translational research to determine the diagnostic and treatment techniques for rare genetic skin diseases in the future.
Dr Rajan is a member of the British Association of Dermatologists, the British Society of Investigative Dermatology and the European Society of Dermatological Research.
Research
Dr Rajan’s research aims to use inherited skin tumour conditions to help understand skin tumour biology. This is necessary to inform the development of new non-surgical treatments for certain types of skin tumours. Dr Rajan has received funding from the Wellcome Trust , the Department of Health, Medical Research Council and the British Skin Foundation to carry out this research.
Having graduated from Newcastle University in 2000, Dr Rajan completed his specialist training in Dermatology in the North-East in 2011. His PhD in skin cancer genetics was funded by the Medical Research Council, and was completed in 2011.
Teaching
Dr Rajan mentors clinical trainees and scientists to recognise how important research is, in the development of future researchers in the NHS which underpins excellent service delivery.
