Dr Mohaned Egred is a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at Newcastle’s Freeman Hospital which he specialises in percutaneous coronary intervention with a vast experience in cardiology and cardiovascular disease, complex coronary intervention and chronic total occlusions and percutaneous mitral valve intervention.
Dr Egred graduated from Damascus University and trained in Cardiology in Liverpool. He obtained his MD from Aberdeen University and spent a year as an Interventional fellow in Canada.
He took up his consultant post at the Freeman Hospital in 2008 and is an honorary senior lecturer at Newcastle University since 2009.
Dr Egred has a special interest in complex coronary interventions and adjunctive devices, in addition to chronic total occlusion and surgical turn down patients. He also has a special interest in percutaneous Mitral valve interventions and one of the few in the UK who perform percutaneous mitral valve interventions.
Dr Egred is a world expert and physician trainer on complex coronary interventions. He is a proctor for consultants in multiple coronary procedures and conducts regular training courses for consultants.
A Faculty member of multiple national and international meetings, he delivers lectures and performs live cases around the globe.
He acts as an expert for the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman and has acted as an expert adviser to the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE).
Dr Egred is an examiner and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and the European Society of Cardiology.
Dr Egred has over 85 publications and over 100 oral presentations in major international journals and meetings, and has written multiple book chapters of coronary interventional books and he is a regular peer reviewer for major international journals.
He is the chief and principle investigator for multiple international studies and registries and he is the joint clinical lead for the cardiovascular research team at Newcastle hospitals.
Dr Egred has served until recently as the education and clinical sections’ editor of the Journal of the Royal college of Physicians of Edinburgh.
Research
Dr Egred has a research special interest in outcome of percutaneous coronary interventions, coronary artery disease and heart attack patients in addition to the application of innovation and new devices in coronary intervention.
