Dr Elameer is a Consultant Neuroradiologist based at the RVI’s Neurosciences Centre where he specialises in advanced neuroimaging techniques to assess the brain and neuromuscular system for clinical practice and research.
His interest in the technical aspects of image acquisition started with his work in the Advanced X-ray Imaging Lab during his intercalated BSc in Medical Physics and Bioengineering at University College London, from which he graduated top of his class in 2012. He completed his MBBS medical degree at University College London in 2015.
Subsequently he moved to Newcastle to continue combined research and clinical practice on the Academic Foundation Programme, and in 2017 this progressed to an NIHR-funded Academic Clinical Fellowship in Diagnostic Radiology. Between 2020-2022 he undertook a subspecialist fellowship in Diagnostic Neuroradiology at the RVI, where he was appointed as a consultant in 2022. Since 2023, he has also been the deanery lead for the Part 1 FRCR exam.
In addition to his clinical practice, he is also a Neuroimaging Research Fellow. His research mostly spans between Newcastle University’s Stroke Research and Motor Unit MRI (MUMRI) research groups. He is currently working on his doctoral thesis investigating clinical applications of MUMRI supervised by Professor Roger Whittaker, Professor Andy Blamire, and Dr Julie Hall.
