Dr Laura Jopson qualified from Sheffield University in 2007. She undertook her specialist training in the Northern Deanery and completed the Hepatology Advanced Training Programme at the Freeman Hospital. She completed 3 years as a Clinical Research Fellow at Newcastle University working on clinical trials in autoimmune liver disease.
Dr Jopson joined the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as a Consultant Hepatologist in 2022. Her specialist clinical interests are advanced liver disease, portal hypertension and transplantation. She leads an advanced liver disease multi-disciplinary meeting and has an interest in developing palliative care services for patients with advanced liver disease.
Dr Jopson leads an outreach hepatology service at the University Hospital of North Tees providing shared care to liver transplant and hepatology patients. She performs upper GI endoscopy.
Research
Dr Jopson is an active clinical researcher and has been involved in many clinical trials. Her current research interest is in improving access to palliative care and quality of life for patients with advanced liver disease.
