Dr Graham Burns is a Consultant Physician in Respiratory and General Medicine at Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary where he specialises in COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), Asthma and Physiology.
Dr Burns is COPD Lead for Newcastle Hospitals and Chair of the Regional COPD Guideline Development Group. He is also Honorary Senior Lecturer at Newcastle University.
His research interests are in COPD and Asthma, and recent national responsibilities include:
British Thoracic Society
Chair Professional Standards Committee, Chair Workforce Committee. Member of the Executive, Council and Remuneration committees. Trustee;.
Royal College of Physicians
Specialist Representative for Revalidation. and GMC liaison Committee.
Department of Health
Chair Implementation Group for COPD strategy, national lead for technology-enhanced learning and co-author of Spirometry Standards.
Dr Burns has a very heavy commitment to undergraduate and post-graduate education.
He also received a British Thoracic Society Meritorious Service Award for services to respiratory medicine (December 2012).
