Dr Debbie Matthews is a Consultant Paediatric Endocrinologist at the Great North Children’s Hospital specialising in childhood endocrinology and diabetes.
Having trained in Cambridge (pre-clinical) and Kings College Hospital, London (clinical) Dr Matthews qualified in 1983 with postgraduate training in London, Oxford, Reading and Newcastle.
Dr Matthews’s clinical practice includes the full spectrum of paediatric endocrinology and diabetes. Her special interests are Turners syndrome, endocrine dysfunction following bone marrow transplantation and cancer, and also endocrine aspects of adolescent gynaecology.
She is a member of the RCPCH Consultation Panel for Endocrinology and Diabetes, an adviser for the RCPCH Specialty Advisory Committee for Endocrinology, and a member of the Clinical Guidelines Committee for British Society for Paediatric Gynaecology.
