Dr Belgin Ozalp is a consultant physician and geriatrician in Older People’s Medicine.
Dr Ozalp graduated from Akdeniz University in Turkey. Her postgraduate general medical training was in Newcastle upon Tyne and she obtained the MRCP(UK) before completing higher specialist training. Her specialist interests involve proactive management of older people undergoing surgery (POPS), preoperative optimisation in frailty and improving postoperative care/outcomes of older adult.
As a result Dr Ozalp has developed a surgical liaison service for older emergency laparotomy patients at the Newcastle Hospitals and she is part of multidisciplinary teams with colleagues in upper GI surgery, colorectal surgery, cardiac surgery (TAVI) and head and neck cancer surgery acting as the perioperative geriatrician and frailty lead.
Dr Ozalp has a PG degree in clinical education from Newcastle University. Currently she is the training lead in her department and also senior clinical tutor for Newcastle University MBBS programme students.
She chairs sessions at the Annual Edinburgh International Course in Medicine of the Older Adult in Royal Collage of Physicians of Edinburgh and is a member of organising committee.
