Dr Anna Thorley is a Consultant Community Paediatrician at the Great North Children’s Hospital specialising in neurodisability and children with complex health needs.
Dr Thorley joined the team in 2014 as a senior trainee and was appointed as a consultant in 2015.
She oversees the health needs of children who attend both Hadrian and Sir Charles Parsons schools. She also holds a weekly child development clinic at the Great North Children’s Hospital working closely with the community therapy teams as well as outside agencies such as education and social care to promote the development of this group of children.
As a postgraduate, Dr Thorley studied for diplomas in medical education and childhood neurodisability.
She is the designated doctor for child death in Newcastle, and leads the child death reviews of sudden unexplained deaths in babies and children.
She is also a member of the North and South of Tyne Child Death Overview Panel (CDOP) working in partnership with the multiagencies to review cases in this region, and she also has links to the national child death review committee, contributing to the national work which aims to reduce the incidence of child death in children and young people.
