Dr Andrew Schaefer is a Consultant Neurologist at the RVI’s Neurosciences Centre where he specialises in neurogenetics, muscle disease and mitochondrial disorders.
Dr Schaefer is clinical lead for the Newcastle Mitochondrial Centre – one of three specialist centres nationally commissioned to provide expert care for these rare and complex disorders.
Together with colleagues in the Mitochondrial team, he strives to improve the care and support for patients with mitochondrial disease across the UK.
